Welcome to the British Schools Museum
It is over 200 years since the first ‘Monitorial School’ in Hertfordshire opened on the museum’s site in what was then called Dead Street, but which now has the more cheerful name of Queen Street.
Today the British Schools Museum is located in the unique set of school buildings that developed on the site. You will be amazed at how much there is to see and do.
The furnished classrooms are open to the public and equipped to show the history of elementary education from pre-Victorian times to the late 1960s. Here young and old can enjoy going back to school, to a place where “Learning Comes to Life”.
You are sure to receive a warm welcome to the British Schools Museum where there is plenty to see and do come rain or shine! It’s a simple equation; 200 years of education = hours of fun for all!
